Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the GrantsExplained website and services operated by First Commit LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using GrantsExplained, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Service Description

GrantsExplained aggregates federal grant opportunities from public government sources including Grants.gov, Simpler.Grants.gov, and SAM.gov. We use artificial intelligence to generate plain-language summaries, eligibility assessments, and other supplementary content.

GrantsExplained is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to the U.S. government, Grants.gov, Simpler.Grants.gov, or SAM.gov. All government grant data originates from public APIs and is provided as-is.

2. Accounts

You may create an account using your email address or a third-party provider (e.g., Google). You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must provide accurate information and promptly update it if it changes. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Free and Paid Services

GrantsExplained offers a free tier that includes searching, browsing, saving grants, and receiving a weekly newsletter. We also offer a paid subscription ("Grant Alerts Pro") that includes daily personalized email alerts, category-based filtering, and in-app notifications. Pricing is displayed at the time of purchase and is subject to change with reasonable notice.

4. Subscriptions, Billing & Cancellation

Grant Alerts Pro is billed monthly at the rate displayed during checkout. Payment is processed securely through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring monthly charges until you cancel.

• Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings or through the Stripe billing portal. Upon cancellation, your subscription remains active until the end of your current billing period. You will not be charged again after cancellation.
• Refunds: Refund requests are accepted if submitted through our contact form within 48 hours of your subscription charge. Refunds are issued to the original payment method and may take 5–10 business days to appear. Refund requests made after the 48-hour window will not be honored.
• Failed payments: If a payment fails, we may retry the charge and/or suspend your access to paid features until the payment is resolved.

5. Disclaimer of Accuracy

AI-generated summaries, eligibility assessments, and other supplementary content may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. All content on this platform is for informational and educational purposes only and should not be relied upon as the sole basis for any funding decision. Always verify grant details, eligibility requirements, and deadlines directly with the official source before applying.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the service or its infrastructure
• Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data from the service beyond normal use
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any entity

7. Intellectual Property

The GrantsExplained name, logo, design, and original content (including AI-generated summaries but excluding underlying government-sourced data) are the property of First Commit LLC. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our original content without prior written consent. Government grant data remains in the public domain.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, GrantsExplained and First Commit LLC shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use this service, including but not limited to missed deadlines, inaccurate information, lost funding opportunities, or reliance on AI-generated content.

Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless First Commit LLC, its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from your use of the service or violation of these Terms.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the service at any time, with or without cause or notice. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including limitation of liability, indemnification, and intellectual property) shall survive.

11. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the service. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you should discontinue use and cancel any active subscriptions.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
